Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can a Solar Enterprises hot water heating system replace my existing hot water heater?

Solar Enterprises solar hot water heating systems are most effective and meant to be used in conjunction with your existing hot water heating system. This will insure that you will have adequate water heating on the days when very little sunlight is available.

2. Do solar hot water systems produce heat in the winter?

Yes, our systems will operate during the winter because we use an environmentally safe glycol mixture with antifreeze properties in our heat exchange process.

3. What happens during cloudy/overcast days?

Your Solar Enterprises system will still provide heating on these days, however your existing hot water system may be needed to help produce desired temperatures. Our systems can be automated by our technicians to insure that you wont run out of hot water on a rainy or cloudy day.

4. What is the payback of the system?

The payback of the system will depend on the amount of sun radiation you get and your area of the country. The payback will also depend on the size of the household, however the average household will spend about 25% of their electricity bill on water heating, at this rate the full cost of a system may be paid off in 4-6 years and considerable savings will be made during the life of the solar water heater.

5. What is the life expectancy/upkeep of the system?

The life expectancy of a Solar Enterprises solar hot water heating system is 25-30 years and the systems have a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty. Also, the systems require little to no upkeep. The cylindrical shape of the tubes allow the natural rain and wind to keep them clean, however if you look over the system once a year you can avoid any potential long term problems with the system.

6. What happens if a tube breaks?

As stated before, the evacuated tubes used by Solar Enterprises are essentially weatherproof, however, should one of the tubes break it is inexpensive and easy to replace yourself.

7. If I order a hot water system, what is included?

All systems are sold as complete as possible to operate the system. Home installation is easy and is recommended, but should you feel you want a professional to install it, Solar Enterprises installation experts will install your entire system for you.

8. How much does a solar hot water system cost?

A Solar Enterprises system will vary in cost depending size of the household or commercial project.
